We are creating a new landmark collectively for all of us.

We welcome all of you that currently live and work around The Ellinikon, the new city at the heart of Southern Athens.

With the development of this one-of-a-kind flagship project in Greece, the southern suburbs are being upgraded. The Ellinikon is a natural extension and an integral part of the urban fabric of the surrounding areas, aiming to make everyday life easier, more enjoyable, and more functional for everyone.

Our vision is to enhance the quality of life through modern, sustainable, resilient and environmentally friendly practices for the ultimate benefit of everyone.

The creation of open green spaces, including The Ellinikon Park, Europe’s largest coastal park spanning 2,000,000 sq.m., along with the new sports facilities, a bike path, and free, easy access to the new sandy beach, are just some of the features that will foster a better and more enjoyable way of living in our new neighborhood.

This project will provide seamless access to the beach from Vouliagmenis Avenue, for the first time, through the new park, effortlessly and without barriers!

The Ellinikon will be completed in phases over the coming years. However, we ask for your understanding in advance regarding any potential inconveniences that the construction of this major project may cause to your daily life.

At some point, we have all experienced the disruption that construction work can bring to our area, regardless of its scale: dust, noise, machinery, and workers operating nearby. At LAMDA Development we acknowledge this and are working tirelessly to minimize these disruptions. We ask for your patience and trust because the final result will benefit everyone.

Through The Ellinikon website and other communication tools, we will keep you updated on the progress of the works, as well as the significant developments related to The Ellinikon project. Please find below all the relevant information about the project and its progress. For more comprehensive updates, we have also created an interactive map where you are able to explore the neighborhood of your interest by simply selecting it on the map. You can also view the progress of the project as well as the individual works taking place in each area.

The Ellinikon Project

The Ellinikon, covering an area of 6.200.000 m², is the largest urban regeneration project in Europe and aims to redefine the urban landscape by creating the city of the future, based on innovation, sustainability, and culture.

Significant progress has been achieved already, considering the complexity and scale of the project, as the first works are now visible. Infrastructure works are also underway meanwhile new landmarks are being created at a rapid pace.

In a short period, a decades-long vision is becoming a reality. We are creating a point of reference not only for all of us, but also for future generations.

Residents, neighbors and visitors will find all daily essentials in just 15 minutes away. Shopping, education, healthcare, entertainment, and sports will be easily accessible on foot, by bike, or via public transport. Cultural activities, leisure options for all ages, strolls through vast open spaces, shopping at The Ellinikon’s premier retail destinations, and architecturally stunning buildings will bring new vibrancy and meaning to our daily lives. They will make life more enjoyable, more convenient, and more modern. All of this will be just 15 minutes away, on foot or by bike.

At the heart of our new city, those of you who already live or work in the surrounding area will have the privilege of experiencing The Ellinikon Park daily, enjoying the benefits of fresh air and oxygen. Additionally, whether you are in Elliniko, Argyroupoli, or Glyfada, you will be able to easily walk or cycle through the park, cross Poseidonos Avenue, and arrive at the newly transformed sandy beach of The Ellinikon.

The Ellinikon is set to breathe new life into the development of the wider area. Across the southern suburbs, it is already increasing property values, particularly for real estate surrounding the project. At the same time, the development of The Ellinikon is playing a crucial role in the job market, having already created thousands of new positions. Specifically, more than 10,000 jobs are being generated during the construction phase of this unique project. Once completed and fully integrated into our daily lives, the new city will create more than 70,000–80,000 new jobs.

Our goal is to complete the first phase of the project in the coming years. By 2027, we aim to have the essential infrastructure and developments ready and fully operational, establishing The Ellinikon as a livable, modern 15-minute city with numerous functional spaces for both residents and guests.

A project of this scale inevitably comes with great challenges. Our priority and commitment at every step are to move forward responsibly, consistently, and with the least possible disruption in your daily life. That is why we value your input. We aim to find quick solutions to any issues that may arise.

Throughout the construction of the project, we are making every possible effort to minimize disruption to neighboring areas. We take all necessary measures to address dust, noise, and vibrations, among other concerns. Specifically, our company implements:

  • Regular measurements of airborne particles
  • Regular measurements of environmental noise
  • Regular vibration measurements at construction sites, with increased monitoring near residential areas
  • Continuous water spraying using water trucks, especially on windy days
  • Covering and cleaning open vehicles transporting materials
  • Continuous speed monitoring of all vehicles within the construction sites and across the project area
  • Detection, neutralization, or removal of explosive devices and WWII bombs in collaboration with the Hellenic Military Bomb Squad (TENX)
  • Public information releases for any scheduled explosive device neutralization. Over 300 bombs have already been detected and neutralized, eliminating potential risks to the local community
  • Ongoing public updates about traffic regulations or emergency measures
  • Soil and groundwater decontamination from pollutants linked to the site’s previous use as an airport
  • Implementation of a daily marine environment monitoring program in collaboration with HCMR (Hellenic Centre for Marine Research)
  • Daily inspections (both scheduled and unscheduled) to ensure compliance with all the above measures across individual construction sites and the entire project.

At the same time, a clear directive has been issued to all contractors involved in The Ellinikon project to suspend any noise-generating activities during designated hours, in accordance with local laws.

Decontamination Efforts

As a former airport and military base, The Ellinikon site was significantly burdened environmentally. Our first priority was its decontamination. More than 60,000 tons of polluted soil, equivalent to 14 Olympic-sized swimming pools, and 3,500 cubic meters of groundwater have been treated.

Additionally, 31 above-ground and underground fuel tanks, along with approximately 5.5 kilometers of underground fuel pipelines, have been removed, as their leaks had caused significant environmental damage. Finally, 250 tons of hazardous waste scattered across the site have been safely disposed of.

The students of the 2nd Primary School of Elliniko draw a city open to all

LAMDA Development invited students to participate in the decoration of the construction site fence with their drawings, which borders on their school. The topic of the decoration was “A city open and accessible to all”, exactly what the new city of The Ellinikon is going to be. The drawings got digitalized, printed and then were put on the special panels by LAMDA, creating a wonderful outdoor drawing exhibition. Please watch the video showing how the exhibition was set up.
